The 29 th February 2012 fell on a Wednesday… we decided to host the event on a series of floats made by tying truck inner tube tires to ply wood and host the party while floating down the Yarra!..

materials: truck tire inner tubes, rope, ply wood, fake grass, fake tree, kegs, gas, paddle with cup holder holes, beach umbrellas, marine grade balustrade mesh, 2nd hand sand pit, sand.

After various trials, we ended up with a ‘turf’ float, a keg (or two) palm tree float, a kids-friendly sad-pit with balustrade and shade float and our dear friend Christopher Langton strapped two of his inflatable elephant sculptures together and offered us an unbelievable spectacle. As the days leading up to the event were unseasonably wet, the Yarra was flooded and moving much faster than normal- lucky for us mother nature let the sun shine on us for the day and had the river been flowing at it’s usual rate we wouldn’t have arrived at our destination before dark!

What a magical experience to watch the world drift past and (eventually) arrive at the ‘after party’ where those who couldn’t make the daytime adventure were waiting to join and entertain us.
